College Fees in Kathmandu: What a Degree Costs

The same degree in the same city can cost four times as much depending on where you take it. A four-year BSc CSIT runs about Rs 3 to 4 lakh at a government campus and Rs 6 to 15 lakh at a private one. Below are the published figures by programme, and what sits outside them.

Total Course Cost by Programme

Patan Multiple Campus, Amrit Science Campus and Bhaktapur Campus sit at the bottom of the CSIT range. They are Tribhuvan University constituent campuses, so the fee covers tuition and internal charges and little else.

Why the Same Degree Differs So Much

Affiliation is most of the answer. A constituent campus is run by the university itself and charges accordingly. A private college affiliated to the same university sets its own fee and adds the cost of its building, labs and staff on top. Both award the degree; only one of them is subsidised.

The rest is facilities. Colleges list campus space, library access, computer labs, internal activities and student support as what the difference buys. Whether that is worth Rs 10 lakh over four years is a question the fee schedule cannot answer for you.

What the Quoted Figure Usually Leaves Out

• Examination fees charged per semester, on top of annual tuition.
• Admission or enrolment charges, billed once and often quoted separately.
• Books, lab materials and printing.
• Transport, which for a campus outside Ring Road can run to a monthly bus pass.

Questions Worth Asking at the Admission Desk

1. Is this a constituent campus or a private college with affiliation? The word affiliated does not mean the fee is set by the university.
2. Is the figure the whole course or one year? Four-year totals and annual tuition are quoted interchangeably.
3. What is billed separately, and when does each fall due?
4. What scholarships exist, and are they partial or full? Rules change year to year, so ask for this year's.

Figures here were published for the 2026 admission cycle. Colleges revise fees annually, so ask for the current schedule in writing before comparing two offers.
